The Great ‘Doon Ra Water’ Limassol Cruise
By Norman Ferguson
When I heard that there was going to be a ‘Doon Ra Water’ cruise in Limassol organised by the Cyprus Caledonian Society my first thought was, ‘See that Ed Findlay and that Chieftain o’ oors, dead good, brilliant they are, but how did they get the ‘Waverley’ all the way doon here? Especially without it breakin doon on the way, maybe ‘Skelpit Lug’ hijacked it and brought it wi’ them oan the plane, that’s why the excess baggage was so high!!!
Sheila and I got there early so we were forced to have a drink, or two, while we waited for all these Scots, who now work on Cyprus time, to arrive.
At 7.00 pm sharp(ish) off we sailed into the sunset, heading east for Beirut and Jaffa and all these exotic places.
As we sailed along Ed was trying to sell us ‘Skelpit Lug’ T-shirts and threatening to make us walk the plank or keel-haul (whit’s that) us if we didn’t buy one.
We gave up on Beirut and turned round at the Four Seasons Hotel (well that’s pretty exotic!!) and cruised back to the Onisilos open-air theatre and anchored just inside one of the breakwaters while the crew got the food ready, they treated us to a buffet with a good choice of items followed by big slices of water melon, everyone seemed to think the food was good and there was lots of it.
We eventually got back to the Old Port harbour ( the Chieftain wasn’t navigating!!) at about 10.30pm and everybody agreed they had a great time thanks to the Relax crew, AND, of course to the great music provided by ‘Skelpit Lug’ They get better every time I hear them.
This is us before we were “forced” to have a drink
